Project Controls Specialist

Job Description

Manage and supervise the scheduling, cost control, cost estimating, management of change, and other project support functions and activities, as instructed by management. Creation, maintenance, updating and analysis of project schedules and man-hour/cost budgets versus actual and committed values, progress measurement, forecasted man-hours/costs at completion, management of change, cost estimating, and issuing reports to the Project Team, Management, and the Client, as required.

Responsible for setting up the control systems for the project to record, maintain and report original and current schedules, budgets, pending/approved/rejected change orders and budget transfers, actual expended, estimate-to-complete, estimate-at-completion amounts, and their variances against control budgets, and work progress and productivity values.

Responsible for gathering, consolidating, producing, and incorporating into reports, all required cost, schedule, management of change, progress and performance data and charts, and ensuring they are current and accurate, including revising the schedule to reflect actual progress, and issue reports as required and on-time.

Responsible for analyzing anticipated, as well as current, situations to proactively focus management’s attention on known or potential areas of concern. Additional duties include tracking and incorporating out of scope work activities, securing client approval for progress payments, assisting in the generation and review of invoices, and maintaining an invoice log and change order log.

The successful candidate will be based in Houston, Texas, and will report directly to the Project Controls Manager.

Experience

Should have at least 10 years of experience in full project Scheduling and Cost Control, and progressing of Engineering and Design Deliverables, for projects in the Onshore and/or Offshore Upstream Oil and Gas Industry.

Qualifications

Education Level – Should have a degree (BS, MS, MBA), preferably in a related field.

Special Requirements:

  • Solid background in planning and scheduling, cost control, estimating, and management of change.
  • Solid background and working knowledge of Primavera P6 with experience and ability to effectively and efficiently use it. Knowledge of MS Project also desired.
  • Solid background and working knowledge of MS Office applications such as Excel and Word, Database systems, and other basic office/administrative software, with experience and ability to effectively and efficiently use them.
  • Able to effectively communicate verbally and written.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to interact and work with others as a team.
  • Background in negotiation and conflict management skills together with demonstrated experience troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Proficient at preparing, conducting, and leading presentations to large groups and executive management.
